The Courtauld would like to invite teachers and organisational leads to our onlineÌýRe-working Manet teachers launch event on Tuesday 6th December.
Re-working ManetÌýis an open brief asking UK based students aged between 14-18 to interrogate and create a personal response to Edouard Manet’s famous painting,ÌýA Bar at the Folies-BergèreÌý(1882). It will encourage students to consider the wider contextual aspects of art history, curation, conservation and artistic production by exploring The Courtauld’s Collections in parallel with contemporary works exploring similar issues today.
Participants will create a proposal for work of art that acts as a ‘provocation’ to spark debate and encourage young people to respond creatively and draw further parallels of their own experiences.
The teachers launch event, run by artist and art Historian Toya Walker and Fran Herrick will introduce the brief, exploring various aspects of ³Ù³ó±ðÌýA Bar at the Folies-BergèreÌýand provide guidance to teachers wishing to launchÌýRe-working ManetÌýwithin their classroom.
